About Ben
Dr Ben McLean, PhD
Clinical Psychologist
Board-approved supervisor
Registrar program principal supervisor – Clinical psychology
Ben completed his PhD in Clinical Psychology at Flinders University, South Australia, while conducting research on the connection between thinking habits and the formation of delusions during psychosis. He registered with AHPRA as a psychologist in 2018, and gained his endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist in 2020.
Ben works with clients across all age ranges on a broad spectrum of client concerns, but has a special interest in working with neurodivergent individuals including those with autism, and in supporting people who are experiencing psychosis due to schizophrenia or other disorders. Ben loves to drive, and primarily provides psychological therapy to NDIS clients who find it difficult to attend a clinic location, by seeing clients in their home or other safe, appropriate, community location. He provides therapy regionally within the Eastern and Southern Fleurieu Peninsula (Murray Bridge, Strathalbyn, Victor Harbor / Goolwa, Mount Compass, Yankalilla etc). Ben does not charge NDIS participants for his travel time, and therapy can also shift to telehealth when you feel ready.
Prior to retraining as a psychologist Ben spent many years in various leadership and service roles. As a young adult he trained and led in the Australian Army Reserves, while studying for his first career in geoscience. He then spent 11 years serving with a Christian non-profit organisation in Asia, where he started and led several international teams, and gained a PhD in geophysics on the side. Ben also loves to draw on his service, leadership, and cross-cultural non-profit experience to support the mental health of others who give of themselves in similar roles.
Ben loves one-on-one catchups, country drives, and making things in his shed.
